Our consulting work is characterised by a partnership with our clients, in which our strict independence from manufacturers and suppliers particularly distinguishes us.
We are a specialised security planner: security technology and security concepts, together with the communications and information technology beneath them, are our entire business. We plan and advise, prepare the manufacturer-independent tender, and steer, monitor and check the executing installer until the installation works and has been accepted. Whereas for a building services engineer security technology is one trade among many, we devote all of our experience and continuing education to it. This specialisation, combined with consistent independence from manufacturers and installers, sets us apart from providers who advise and install at the same time.
Our history
In the beginning there was an idea: PLANATEL stands for “Planung und Analyse von Telekommunikationsanlagen”. Out of that idea, PLANATEL GmbH was founded in 1992. From the very start, manufacturer neutrality and independence were the overriding principle of our consulting work. In our view, client satisfaction is achievable only through an objective examination of the individual requirements and circumstances of the company being advised.
Given the broad scope of our consulting services and developments in the markets for communications, security and IT, our company soon grew. Technicians and commercial specialists, engineers and highly specialised expert assessors completed our team and made us a recognised consulting partner for decision-makers across sectors.

Today we look back on a substantial company history, with many years of experience in advising on, designing and implementing projects. We regard the successful, long-term collaboration with many well-known companies as a mark of our work, as an obligation, and as an incentive for the future.
Certifications
To ensure consistently high quality, we maintain a quality management system certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015. ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. Its focus is the optimisation of processes, in order to improve performance and meet client requirements as fully as possible.

We plan according to the relevant standards and codes of practice, including DIN 14675 (fire alarm and voice alarm systems), DIN EN 54 (components of fire alarm systems), DIN VDE 0833-1/-2 (hazard alarm systems), DIN EN 50133 (access control systems), DIN EN 62676 (video security systems) and DIN EN 50849 (voice alarm).
Our certifications are an integral part of our work in tendering and approval processes.

Owner & Managing Director
Thiemo Meyer joined PLANATEL in January 2018, became Managing Director in April 2024 and has been owner and Managing Director of PLANATEL Planungs- und Beratungsgesellschaft mbH since July 2026. He knows security technology from all three perspectives in the industry:
Manufacturer side
Trained on the systems themselves
Thiemo Meyer began his career in security technology on the manufacturer side, with a thorough grounding in systems, products and standards. That perspective shows what installations actually deliver technically, and what a data sheet merely promises.
Installer side
Projects in execution
The installer side followed: executing, commissioning and handing over security installations in live projects. Anyone who has installed and commissioned systems themselves knows which plans hold up on site and which do not.

Where is PLANATEL based?
Our head office is in Hamburg (Neuer Wall 80). From here we coordinate our projects across Germany; our team is distributed throughout the country.
How long has PLANATEL existed?
Since 1992. Founded as a planning and analysis company for telecommunications systems, we today plan and advise across security, communications and information technology. Telecommunications never fell away. Security technology was added to it.
Is PLANATEL tied to manufacturers?
No. Strict independence from manufacturers and suppliers has been the overriding principle since our foundation. Our only service is independent planning and consulting in your interest.
Does PLANATEL train apprentices or hire career changers?
There are few classical training routes into the security sector. Sound knowledge is built in projects and through continuing education. Talk to us: we welcome applications from people with experience in security planning, and equally from ambitious career changers with a technical background.
